Titles
- Concise titles that utilize words that a person would use in a search query.
Language
- Clear, direct language that communicates the point quickly.
Tone
- Friendly tone with personality that explains concepts in simple terms.
Formatting
- Short, scannable text, utilizing bullets, bold points, blockquotes and subheads to break up the text.
Common-law Language
- Online, website and internet, vs. on-line, Web site, and Internet.
Links
- Linking to source material and publications with clear “destination” labels.
Images
Photographing the People
- Whenever possible, putting a face with the name.
Screenshots
- Showing, rather than telling, about publishing innovations and best practices.
Site Design
Tagged content
- Tags help users navigate the content in the site.
Conversations
- Displaying comments prominently to encourage conversation and participation.
